Cuyahoga Valley Wilderness Medicine Conference

Description:

Join us for the first annual Cuyahoga Valley Wilderness Medicine Conference! This one day event has been designed for healthcare workers of all professions (nurses, resident physicians, EMTs, physicians of all specialties, advanced practitioners, students, physical therapists, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, etc.) that have an interest in expanding their knowledge and expertise in wilderness and environmental medicine. Outdoor enthusiasts of all types, academicians, and prehospital professionals will each find interesting, focused, and practical learning opportunities to suit their goals.

Our expert instructors from across the region will employ a wide scope of teaching methods and styles including lectures, practical skills sessions, small group sessions, field exercises, and simulation (with live actors!) to translate their knowledge. Upon conference completion, attendees will be eligible for Category 1 CME and Wilderness Medical Society Fellowship (FAWM) credit.

Lunch and hot drinks are included in the registration cost.

Location:

Cuyahoga Valley National Park serves to preserve and reclaim the rural and forested landscape along the Cuyahoga River. Situated between Akron and Cleveland, Ohio, the park serves its region and nation by uniquely finding its place along the spectrum of public space conservation and use. Runners and hikers can enjoy many trails among sandstone cliffs, meadows, and forest, several historical farms are preserved and still operate, mountain bikers can enjoy several new trails, the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath has preserved miles of accessibility to the park along the valley’s floor, paddlers can enjoy the river with eagles soaring overhead, the park boasts several waterfalls, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad runs the length of the park, and skiers can enjoy two areas to get in some turns in the snow-belt.

Topics:

The conference is divided into three distinct categories: didactic lectures, small group sessions, and outdoor exercises.  Students will have a choice for each 45-minute “block” of the day – it is unlikely that any two students’ days are exactly the same!
