Course Description:

The past several years have seen a dramatic increase in outdoor recreation in avalanche terrain. While avalanche safety classes are available for the public concerning decision making, travel in the backcountry, and avalanche rescue techniques, less time is given to the unique medical concerns surrounding avalanches. In this module, you will learn about avalanche prevention and management, rescue organization, and the injury types common to avalanche victims and their treatment.

Objectives: 

The purpose of this module is to help you develop a process that will allow you to overcome obstacles and provide the patient(s) with the appropriate care.

Upon completion, students should be familiar with:

  • Risk factors that are involved in Avalanche propagation
  • Avalanche Prevention
  • Avalanche victim evaluation
  • Avalanche victim Treatment
