Our Courses

For Medical Professionals

Our Wilderness Life Support for Medical Professional, or WLS:MP, courses are designed to apply pre-existing medical knowledge to the outdoors. This program is appropriate for any medical professional, including but not limited to: EMT, nurse, DO, MD, and more who are interested in using their medical training in an austere setting.

All medical professional courses are eligible for ACCME Cat. 1 CME credits and FAWM credit. Upon completion of our Wilderness Life Support for Medical Professionals course, students will also earn a WLS:MP certification, valid for four years.

Wilderness First Aid

Our Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course is designed to provide an individual with an introduction to wilderness medicine, as well as basic skills to treat the most common injuries and illnesses encountered in the outdoors. This program is appropriate for entry-level professional outdoor guides, and other non-medical people who want a basic understanding of wilderness medicine.

Upon course completion, students will earn both the WFA and CPR/BLS plus AED certifications, which are valid for two years.

Wilderness First Responder

Our 70-80 hour Wilderness First Responder course is designed to provide an individual with an in-depth knowledge of wilderness medicine, and the basic skills to treat the most common injuries and illnesses encountered in the outdoors. This program is appropriate for professional outdoor guides and other non-medical people who want a deeper understanding of wilderness medicine.

Students will learn the latest wilderness medicine skills for patient assessment, treatment, and evacuation. Our expert instructors employ a wide scope of teaching methods, balancing lectures with practical, hands-on skills and scenarios. Emphasis is placed not just on the materials learned, but the critical decision making skills surrounding effective backcountry medical management.

Upon course completion, students will earn the WFR certification, valid for two years (with a one year grace period), and a CPR/BLS plus AED certification, also valid for two years.

NICA

Our Mountain Bike Medicine – NICA First Aid is designed to provide Level 2 & 3 NICA coaches with an introduction to wilderness medicine, and the skills to treat the common injuries encountered on trail rides. Coaches will learn the latest in wilderness medicine skills to hone their assessment, treatment, and evacuation of injuries while riding. This course balances hands-on application of skills with discussion-based learning to emphasize critical decision-making and effective backcountry medical management.

Upon course completion, students will earn the Mountain Bike Medicine certification, valid for two years (with a one-year grace period), and a CPR/BLS plus AED certification, also valid for two years.
