Wilderness Life Support For Medical Professionals
Our Wilderness Life Support for Medical Professionals (WLS:MP) course is designed for anyone with a sufficient medical background. This includes levels of training from an EMT to an MD, as well as adjacent medical professions.
This class applies pre-existing medical knowledge to the austere environment. The curriculum focuses on detailed assessment, differential diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, and complex evacuation for commonly encountered medical problems in the wilderness.
Upon course completion, students are eligible for:
- WLS:MP certificate, valid for four years
- ACCME Cat. 1 continued medical education (CME) credit
- Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) credit
Wilderness First Responder
Our Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is designed for outdoor professionals and enthusiasts looking for an in-depth understanding of wilderness medicine.
This class focuses on the critical decision-making skills surrounding effective backcountry medical management with emphasis on performing patient assessments, utilizing appropriate interventions, and making informed evacuation decisions.
Upon course completion, students are eligible for:
- WFR certificate, valid for two years (with a one year grace period)
- CPR/BLS plus AED certificate, valid for two years
- Epinephrine auto-injector certificate, valid for two years (upon request)
- Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) credit
Wilderness First Aid
Our Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course is designed for outdoor enthusiasts looking for a foundation in wilderness medicine. As an introductory class, the curriculum focuses on the essential skills required to treat the most common injuries and illnesses encountered in the outdoors including patient assessments, basic interventions, and evacuations.
Upon course completion, students are eligible for:
- WFA certificate, valid for two years
- CPR/BLS plus AED certificate, valid for two years (class dependent)
- Epinephrine auto-injector certificate, valid for two years (upon request)
Mountain Bike Medicine First Aid
Our Mountain Bike Medicine First Aid is designed for Level 2 & 3 NICA coaches who need to satisfy their first aid requirements. Additionally, anyone looking for a first aid class with mountain biking specific applications are welcome to attend.
This curriculum introduces basic first-aid skills and applies these techniques to common injuries and illnesses encountered while mountain biking.
Upon course completion, students are eligible for:
- Mountain Bike Medicine First Aid certificate, valid for two years (with a one year grace period)
- CPR/BLS plus AED certificate, valid for two years (class dependent)
CPR
Our CPR class is designed for anyone interested in basic life support skills.
This curriculum covers choking, airway management, respirations, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, AED use, team dynamics and communication, and briefly mentions opioid overdose treatment. This class covers these techniques for infants, children, and adults. Additionally, these topics are applied to the backcountry environment.
Upon course completion, students are eligible for:
- CPR/BLS plus AED certificate, valid for two years
