Wilderness Medicine CME- Dallas, TX

Course Description:

WLS:MP is designed for medical professionals of all levels (MD, EMT, PA, NP, RN, etc) that have an interest in expanding their knowledge of wilderness medicine pathology and enhancing their practical skills in a wilderness environment. WLS:MP courses are designed for all types of outdoor enthusiasts, from the casual day hike to the extended expedition.

During this  in-person course, students will learn the latest wilderness medicine skills for patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evacuation. Our expert instructors employ a wide scope of teaching methods, balancing online didactic lectures with practical, hands-on skills and scenarios. Emphasis is placed not just on the materials learned, but the critical decision making skills surrounding effective backcountry medical management.

Upon course completion, students will earn the WLS:MP certification, valid four years, and be eligible for up to 21.25 hours of ACCME  Category 1 CME and Wilderness Medical Society Fellowship (FAWM) credit. Alternatively, students can earn up to 24.5 CNE Credit through UTTyler.

After-hours Wilderness Survival Workshop*

Taught by former US Army Green Beret, and Doctor of Nursing Practice, this 4.5-hour course is conducted in two parts on Friday and Saturday Evenings. Topics include overview of survival, survival kits, building shelters, fire making and water procurement/purification.

These are hands-on skill practices that provide practical concepts, essential to providing survivability to you and your patients.

Location:

Join us in Van, Texas for a special WLS:MP course hosted entirely outdoors! The nearest large city from Van is Dallas, TX, located about an hour away.

This course will cover the standard WLS:MP curriculum, plus provide access to an amazing outdoor venue for your practical skills and scenarios. After class, escape to the wonderful recreation Van has to offer, including wildlife reserves, horse racing, museums, and more!

Curriculum:

The materials below above are covered via online and in person didactic lecture, small group discussion, practical skills sessions, and live scenarios. Each topic will describe pathology, treatment, prevention, and provide evacuation guidelines necessary for high quality patient care. This curriculum is continually reviewed for best practice and the most up to date guidelines.

Nursing Specific CNE Credit:

This course is the first to offer nursing specific credit through the University of Texas Tyler School of Nursing. This is an exciting opportunity for nurses, as ACCME credit does not always apply to state nursing credits. This course is by nurses, for nurses, and available for no additional charge. Please note that the CME credit hours differ for traditional in-person courses and hybrid courses.

The University of Texas at Tyler is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This course is eligible for up to 25.5 CNE contact hours.

ACCME CME Credit:

Along with the WLSL:MP certification, students are able to earn up to 21.25 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 CME, as well as Wilderness Medical Society Fellowship credit. To confirm that these credits are applicable to your specific medical designation, inquire with your governing body. Please note that the CME credit hours differ for traditional in-person courses and hybrid courses.
